Herbal/Folk Tradition

Used in Indonesia, the flowers are spread on the beds of newly married couples.  In the Moluca Islands, an ointment is made from ylang ylang and cucuma flowers for cosmetic and hair care, skin diseases, to prevent fever and fight infections.  In the Victorian age, the oil was used in the hair treatment Macassar oil.  Additionally, it is used to soothe insect bites.

Used as herbal tea from, of which its names is derived for its medicinal properties.  Based on the long history of the Aboriginal people of Australia, the oil is unusual in that it is active against all three varieties of infectious organisms: bacteria, fungus, and viruses.  It has been used as a very powerful immuno-stimulant, so when the body is threatened, it increases its ability to respond.
