Herbal/Folk Tradition

Used and valued as a culinary and medicinal plant, making it an herb of ancient repute.  Considered a sacred herb by the Romans.  It has been used for a variety of disorders including respiratory infections, menstrual difficulties and digestive complaints.  It was also believed to strengthen the senses and the memory.

Herbal/Folk Tradition

Used in Native American culture in their spiritual ceremonies and as a polyvalent remedy.  Traditionally used in smudging, a traditional method or ridding a dwelling of bad energies and spirits.  White sage would also be used to avoid bad luck if a menstruating woman accidentally touched hunting equipment.

Herbal/Folk Tradition

One of the early aromatics used by the ancient Egyptians and is mentioned in the Song of Solomon in the Bible.  The oil was used by Roman perfumers in the preparation of one of their most celebrated scented oils, Nardium.  It was also an herb good for nausea, flatulent indigestion, menstrual problems, inflammations and conjuntivitis.
